Bloomsburg Falls to Slippery Rock in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG-- The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team dropped a 67-52 contest to Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover game at the Nelson Field House.
The Huskies took an early 9-5 lead on a jumper by Gabe Miskinis (Lewistown/Lewistown) with 16 minutes to play in the half. However, Slippery Rock battled back to within one point on a lay-up from Nikki Presto at the 14-minute mark.
A free throw shot by Sarah Griffin (Philadelphia/Hallahan) extended the Huskies' lead back to four points, but the Rock tied the game at 14-14 when Haley Gaidosh completed a three-point play with just under 11 minutes to play in the half. Slippery Rock then went on a 12-3 run to take the largest lead of the half for at nine points with a little under four minutes to play. The Huskies pulled to within five on a jumper from Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) but the Rock took a 30-25 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, Slippery Rock opened with an 18-6 run over eight minutes to take a 17 point lead (48-31) with 12 minutes to play. The Huskies cut the lead to 10 on a three-point play from Kegerreis but Bloomsburg would get no closer, losing 67-52.
Slippery Rock was lead in scoring by Nijha McNeely who had 14 points and eight rebounds while Amanda Nero added 11 points. Gaidosh chipped in with nine points and Jessica Schake finished with eight for the Rock who moved to 6-8 on the season.
For the Huskies (5-9), Kegerreis had a game-high 16 points and completed the double-double with 10 rebounds. Miskinis finished with 13 points while Kelly Joyce (Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) had eight.
Bloomsburg will take on Edinboro on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at home.
